Linda, 73, was diagnosed with bulbar onset ALS in 2017. She lives in San Antonio, TX, with her family, who she calls “the A Team”: her daughter Amanda, son-in-law Adam, and her four grandkids Avery, Aiden, Asher, and Ainsley—plus her dogs, Atlas and Astro.
I was diagnosed with ALS on June 13, 2017, but I started noticing symptoms around May 2015, so that’s really when my two-year journey to a diagnosis began. I have bulbar onset ALS, so my voice was affected first. One morning in 2015 while out for a jog, suddenly, I forgot how to run, and my legs wouldn&#8217;t move! I thought this was incredibly strange, so I went to the doctor and was told that at my age, I should be walking and not running. Back then, I was athletic, and being active was important to me, so I wasn’t really satisfied with this advice. I continued searching for answers with other doctors trying to see why my legs weren’t remembering how to run, and it took two years to figure it out.

The day I finally got my diagnosis was a very strange day. I went in for a colonoscopy and my voice was shaky and weak—similar to how it is today. As the doctor was putting me to sleep, I said, “While I&#8217;m under, what do you think of scoping my throat to see why I&#8217;m having difficulty talking?” He agreed, which was a surprise. He added the throat scope and when I woke up, he asked to speak with me and my daughter. My doctor had a list of about 15 symptoms of ALS, and as he read them off, it struck me that I had every single one of them. He said, “I think you have ALS and I want you to go to a neurologist straight from here to get diagnosed right away.” I called my family doctor who saw me quickly and then got me into a neurologist that same day, where my diagnosis was confirmed.
Moving Beyond the ALS Diagnosis
This diagnosis was devastating, of course, and my sister came to stay with me for a week. During that time, we grieved together and cried a lot. After that week passed, I said to myself, “Your days may be shorter, but how do you want to live them? Do you want to live them sad and discouraged, or do you want to choose joy for each and every day you have?” Because each day is a gift, and I choose joy every day.
After coming to terms with my diagnosis, my immediate concern was to take action—to prepare my will and get my house in order. I had just lost my mother, so I didn&#8217;t want to leave my kids with sorting through all my junk. I immediately tore apart my house and got rid of everything I didn&#8217;t need, sorted out pictures, and then finally I sold my house.
My daughter asked me to move in with her family. They sold their house, and we moved into a bigger house that could hold 7 people. We were very blessed to be able to live together. Getting all my finances in order and simplifying my life really helped me find peace. It comforted me knowing that my family wouldn&#8217;t have to make decisions for me, because I had already made those decisions for them.
Asking My Doctor About RADICAVA®
The first doctor I went to for my diagnosis told me I was no longer eligible for RADICAVA® (edaravone) because it had taken 2 years for diagnosis, and he said he did not recommend putting any patient on RADICAVA® after 2 years. Well, I did not take “no” for an answer and found a new doctor who worked with me to see if RADICAVA® was right for me. It was and this gave me hope.
In the clinical study, RADICAVA® slowed the loss of physical function as measured by the ALS Functional Rating Scale–Revised (ALSFRS-R) by 33% versus placebo. At 24 weeks (about 6 months), patients who did not receive RADICAVA® (66 patients) declined more rapidly in physical function, having lost an average of 2.49 points more than those who received RADICAVA® (68 patients). The most common side effects of RADICAVA include bruising (contusion), problems walking (gait disturbance), and headache. Fatigue was also reported in 7.6% of patients taking RADICAVA ORS®. My RADICAVA® Experience
I have been on RADICAVA® IV for 5 and a half years. My schedule is prioritized by my RADICAVA® appointments, and I never miss one. My appointments to get infusions are the reason I get up on those mornings, get dressed, and leave the house. I make sure that I take a good book with me or meet a friend for coffee or lunch prior to infusions. So, it’s a fun event for me. I love the people who care for me at the infusion center, so it has never felt like a burden.

Living for Today
When it comes to support and motivation, I turn to my friends and my faith. I have friends that encourage me and treat me like myself instead of a disabled person, so that&#8217;s pretty awesome.
My faith has grown tremendously, and it’s what gives me strength and joy to live each day. None of us knows how many days we have on this Earth, so choosing to be joyful and love every day that you’re given is a great way to live.

My Advice to Others Starting Their ALS Journey
Each case of ALS is different. There are many unknowns. We don’t know how this journey will go for each individual, whether it will be slow progression or rapid. We do have to be our own advocate. Research as much as we can, ask questions, get connected to different groups so you have someone to walk with you on this journey.
I also encourage people living with ALS to share their stories. One of my life goals has been to encourage others who go through tough times. Remember that we never know how what we say will affect other people. Our obligation as human beings is to try to help others along the way. So sharing your story could have benefits you&#8217;ll never be aware of, but could be very real to someone else.
ALS has helped me get my priorities in line and save my energy for the things that are important to me. One thing I try to do is encourage others who are diagnosed with this disease to rely on their faith. My faith gives me strength and joy. And be sure to connect to others. Reach out and know there are ways to live with this disease that are purposeful.

Albert, 48, is a former competitive runner, cyclist, mountain climber, SCUBA diver, and all-around athlete who was diagnosed with ALS in 2021. He’s currently focused on working and being a family man in Miami, FL, where he lives with his wife and two sons.
&nbsp;
I was always an avid athlete even as a young child, playing lots of soccer. At the age of 12, I decided to become a serious runner, and in high school I was on the track and cross country teams. That continued as an adult, and before ALS impacted my life, I completed more than 200 races. I did everything from 10Ks to half marathons, marathons, ultramarathons, adventure races, extreme challenges, and everything else I could do to push my body.
&nbsp;
When I was diagnosed with ALS, my doctors told me my new focus was maintaining my physical function as long as possible. That was very foreign to me because I was always pushing my own limits. It’s been two years since receiving my diagnosis, and two and a half years since the onset of symptoms. These days, I do a lot of soul searching. I’m trying to figure out what to do with this extra time. It’s led me to focus more on my family and other things I like to do. It’s been tough to transition from a life where I worked out between two and five hours a day.
&nbsp;
My Difficult Road to Diagnosis
It was a long and frustrating journey to my diagnosis with ALS, with no answers for a long time. I saw a chiropractor, an ENT, a neurologist, and an ALS specialist before flying to Boston to see another neurologist and a different ALS specialist. In May of 2020 I was training hard during COVID, with nothing else to do but hit the bike or run nonstop. I started getting neck weakness and had trouble breathing when I turned my head to my right. At that time, I was still strong, still running and biking as much as I could with minor difficulty. My ENT recommended I see a neurologist, where we did some tests and discovered a slight weakness on my left side. That’s when he directed me to see an ALS specialist. Nothing on my radar led me to understand how significant this next step would be.
&nbsp;
In a telehealth appointment during COVID, the ALS specialist first diagnosed me with myasthenia gravis. He prescribed me some pills and said, “I’ll see you in February.” I didn’t feel I could get an accurate diagnosis for something so big over a screen, so I wasn’t comfortable taking the pills. A friend who works at a Boston hospital suggested I see the doctors up there. I was elated! Finally, I felt like I was getting closer to the help I needed. I got an appointment in the first week of January and flew up to Boston. They did a battery of exams and I tested negative for myasthenia gravis, so I spoke with the ALS specialist there. After looking over the test results, the specialist said, “I’m sorry to tell you, but you have ALS.”

At that point, having been through so many paths on this winding journey, getting diagnosed felt anti-climactic. It wasn’t emotional. The day I got the ALS diagnosis, I knew the writing was on the wall. I knew it was something serious. I was told not to Google ALS because of what I might find, but I felt I had to get more information, so I didn’t listen to that advice. When I Googled it, there were sites saying that people with Bulbar-onset ALS like me often die within 2 years or less, and the rest have a terrible quality of life if they live longer than that. To say I was discouraged and frustrated is an understatement. After that, I had multiple doctors tell me research has come a long way and now there are more treatment options than ever before. But it was still hard to stay positive knowing there is no cure.

Drawing Strength From the Past to Move Forward
Since my diagnosis, I’ve come a long way. At the beginning it was shocking, but as I digested it, my wife and I confronted it like we do with any other problem we encounter. We said, “Okay, this is the problem. How do we deal with it? Research doctors, research treatment options, make the best of it.” I feel like I’ve gotten more focused mentally, and I’m driven to understand what I want to do with the time I have remaining. Having ALS put things into focus and has given me a different perspective.

These days I try to stay upbeat, motivated, and active, however I can. I’m still working every day, trying to maintain my life as it was before, until something comes up and then I have to adjust and make adaptations. For example, right now I’m wearing a neck brace to help support my head. I know I may need more support in the future and I’m mentally preparing for that all the time. You do what you can, when you can. But for the most part, you have to keep going.
&nbsp;
I’m a very pragmatic person. I’m on the path of life and discovery, and I see this as just another part of my path. There are times when it’s going to be tough, with some days tougher than others, but there are also going to be some fun times again. I can draw a comparison to past challenges of a 4-hour marathon, a 12-hour mountain climb, sleeping in a mountain shelter with freezing conditions. And despite the incredibly hard conditions, I felt I could endure more than I thought I ever could. You have to use your mindset to face each moment. You have moments where you think, Wow, this is incredible. It makes you realize that you’re alive. Having ALS can sometimes make me feel this same way.

Feeling Grateful for Moments of Connection
Living with ALS has made me focus on the important things, like my connection with my family. I remember this great conversation I recently had with my 12-year-old son. He’d been talking on the phone with a girl, because he’s at that time of life where he’s almost always on the phone with girls. And I told him, “When I was your age, I did exactly the same thing. I used to talk to girls for hours and I don’t even know what we talked about. Usually it was just random stuff, but we talked forever, and it was always so much fun.” He gave an appreciative nod and a smile. That’s when he told my wife “You know, Dad really understands me.” Thinking back to that time of connection with my son is something I draw from a lot, and it makes me feel like a million bucks.
 
Advice for the Newly Diagnosed With ALS
For those who are struggling with a new ALS diagnosis, I would say seek out information, prepare yourself by coming to terms with what you’re facing so you can get your mind right for fighting the condition as best you can. To be in denial about ALS is, I think, the scariest thing you can do to yourself. I don’t want to be blindsided when the bad things happen, like losing my voice, not being able to move my arms anymore, or not being able to pick things up. I can get through things better when I understand what’s happening and plan for how to proceed.
&nbsp;
When it comes to finding support and encouragement, nothing brings me strength like having community and someone who understands what I’m going through. I find motivation from seeing this as a challenge in my life like running marathons, climbing mountains, or SCUBA diving down to the depths. I try to stay calm and focused, and I’m strongest when I’m around friends, making new connections, and looking inward.

What RADICAVA ORS® Means to Me 
I was first told about RADICAVA® IV by my neurologist. I was intrigued when she said that it may slow the loss of physical function.
&nbsp;
Four months after being diagnosed, I was still biking and running regularly and being active for as long as I could was something I focused on. Then I started taking RADICAVA® IV in May of 2021. It made me feel comforted knowing that RADICAVA® has been shown to slow the loss of physical function that comes with ALS.

I worked with my doctor to switch to RADICAVA ORS® (edaravone) in mid-2022. I appreciate how it fits into my life’s routine and I’ve found taking RADICAVA ORS® is less intrusive. It’s a little syringe of five milliliters of liquid that I take orally and in my opinion, it doesn’t taste bad, it tastes sweet, and I don’t have to worry about hours lost doing infusions. RADICAVA ORS® is a convenient option for me, and it takes less time to administer versus the IV formulation it, which has, personally, been very positive.

I make sure to follow these instructions my doctor told me:

<li>Take RADICAVA ORS® first thing every morning after fasting overnight</li>
<li>Wait at least 1 hour after taking it before eating or drinking anything except water</li>
<li>RADICAVA ORS® should be stored upright at room temperature between 68°F-77°F and protected from light</li>

Veterans are more likely to develop ALS than those who haven’t served in the military, which is why MTPA takes a moment each season to acknowledge all Veterans with this disease. Daniel, 62, is a retired Air Force veteran who was diagnosed with ALS in 2020. He lives with his wife and caregiver Marcia in Midlothian, TX, where he loves trainspotting and being with his family, two dogs, cat, and two horses.  
The day I was diagnosed with ALS in 2020 came as a shock. I’m not sure whether my wife Marcia or I really understood what we were up against. The doctor said, “I’m sorry to tell you, but you have ALS, and that typically means an estimation of 3 to 5 years left to live.” We felt dejected as we were driving home from the doctor’s office, but it didn’t really sink in right away. I was overwhelmed with feelings of sadness and concern, and they crowded out anything else in those moments. As we drove, we talked about parts of our lifestyle that may need to change. We laid out different scenarios of what could happen, what having ALS might mean. But we didn’t know much about the disease at that time, so I felt a bit lost and didn’t have a clear picture in my head of what my future might look like. When we got home, the first thing we did was start calling up family members, reaching out to let them know about my diagnosis. Then we began researching ALS online.

Finding Allies in Fighting ALS  
After the shock of getting diagnosed with ALS wore off, the first thing we did was connect with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to see what my options were and what they could do for me. I was in the Air Force for 21 years and the VA has been an incredible resource. We go to the VA frequently for help with answering questions about the condition. And the cool thing is, we’ve been overwhelmed with support from the VA, which has made the fight against ALS a tiny bit easier. It’s hard to put into words what our future is going to look like. We know it’s going to be challenging, but seeing what we’re up against and feeling like we have such a great ally in the fight means the world to Marcia and me.

Adapting to Changes Since Diagnosis 
My legs were the first to go. Soon after receiving the ALS diagnosis, I noticed they were getting weaker. As my disease progressed, we adapted to the changes, which were slight at first. Every month, I would lose just a little more physical function. We moved back to Texas, where I had to give up driving because my legs were getting so weak that I couldn’t climb into my truck. Disappointed, I traded my driver&#8217;s license for an ordinary Texas ID instead. At that time, I was grateful that I could still walk with the aid of a walker, and my hands and my voice were both functioning okay. But over the last year and a half, there was a turning point where that, too, began to change.
My hands have become much weaker, and aside from a few words, I can’t speak anymore. I can type with one finger on each hand, and I can grasp things that are very light. Traveling has become more difficult.
When I went into the hospital for pancreatitis, I was glad to be released 4 days later, but then I was surprised to discover that I could no longer stand or walk. That was a huge adjustment for us, and that&#8217;s where I&#8217;m at today.
What I Wish I Knew When I Was Diagnosed 
One thing I wish I’d mentally prepared for is that I wasn’t going to be able to talk. I guess I was naive about the disease because I know now that this is just the beginning, and I understand that it&#8217;s going to get worse. But I didn&#8217;t know just how much worse it would get until I started going through the changes at different stages. Communication is a big challenge because my wife Marcia and I used to talk all the time, and now it’s very limited. But after being married for 27 years, I’m grateful that we still have a close bond. I think about how ALS is affecting her, as well. She has home health counselors and nurses she can speak with that are provided by the VA, but she also has a support network that includes many friends, family members, and offers of help from our church.
Love and Support Makes All the Difference 
As for me, I find connection and understanding in online support groups for people living with ALS. That’s where I met my online friend Juan and his lovely wife Meg who have also shared about their ALS journey.
I get a lot of strength and comfort from reading the stories of other people living with ALS. I’ve never met Juan and his wife in person, but I’d love to one day. Nobody can understand what you go through quite like someone who’s also walking in your shoes, and that kind of understanding makes you feel you’re not walking the path by yourself. It’s a relief to have someone by my side—whether it’s having friends like Juan, or my incredible wife Marcia, with her constant love and support.
What RADICAVA ORS® Means to Me 
When I spoke with my doctor about a treatment plan for my ALS, she recommended a couple options. We didn’t choose RADICAVA® at the time because it was only available in an IV form, and I’m not very fond of needles, so we went with another treatment. I was on another treatment for about two years when my wife Marcia came to me with some research she’d done and brought up the option of RADICAVA ORS®.
Marcia read many stories about people who had taken it, and I was excited because I’d heard of RADICAVA® from my doctor, but once it was available in the oral form, I wanted in! I spoke with my doctor, and she told me that in a clinical study, people taking RADICAVA® lost 2.49 fewer points on a scale that rates physical function compared with people who didn&#8217;t take RADICAVA®. After we&#8217;d talked more about it, including the side effects, she was comfortable to prescribe it for me. I’ve been taking RADICAVA ORS® for two months now. The decision to get started on RADICAVA ORS® is something I feel very good about.
In the clinical study, RADICAVA® slowed the loss of physical function as measured by the ALS Functional Rating Scale–Revised (ALSFRS-R). At 24 weeks (about 6 months), patients who did not receive RADICAVA® (66 patients) declined more rapidly in physical function, having lost an average of 2.49 points more than those who received RADICAVA® (68 patients). The most common side effects of RADICAVA and RADICAVA ORS include bruising (contusion), problems walking (gait disturbance), and headache. Fatigue was also reported in 7.6% of patients taking RADICAVA ORS®. Talk to your doctor about all the benefits and risks associated with treatment.

Living One Day at a Time With ALS 
These days I keep busy with things I enjoy. I’ve always loved trains, both trainspotting in real life and playing a train game on my computer. I’m also a big fan of watching murder mysteries on TV. This past Thanksgiving, I was able to spend time with my loved ones, some of whom are scattered all over the country, so that was a very special time for me. Making each day count and making the most of every day I’m given is what I’m focusing on.
It may seem terrible to some, but living as if each day is your last is all you can do. And if you can manage it, there is peace to be found in living that way. I take less for granted and make life as happy and memorable as possible. I still have so much to look forward to. I’m planning to take care of my bucket list. Marcia and I would like to go on a cruise, and I’d love to visit Disney World. I’m still a big kid at heart! Marcia is very adventurous; she’d like to see Australia and go hang gliding. But more than anything, I’m looking forward to spending more happy times with friends and family, whenever I can.

The reason I’m moved to share my story is that I want to show people that there are still positive things that can happen while living with ALS. If someone gets a diagnosis like this, it doesn’t mean they should just give in and give up.
Before my diagnosis, I didn’t realize how many people there were who were fighting ALS—in fact, I was shocked to learn how many of us there are! Who I Am and How I Find Joy
I retired after working for 30 years in the medical field. I’m used to being the one everyone turns to for care, so having ALS and accepting help has been a real adjustment for me.

I try to focus on the important things beyond my ALS. One thing that brings me much joy is spending time with my new grandbaby. She’s 20 months old and being with her reminds me how precious every day on this earth really is.

My Journey to ALS Diagnosis
Around six months prior to being diagnosed, I’d lost 60 pounds and couldn’t swallow. My doctor in Nashville did a scope to see what the diagnosis could be. After the scope she woke me right up and said, “Debra, I think it’s ALS.” So, mentally I prepared myself to hear the news as best as I could-but I don’t think you can truly be ready for that kind of diagnosis.

My husband was with me the day I was diagnosed, and he asked the physician “What can we do?” The physician told him “You just need to take her home and enjoy every minute”. My husband is very supportive, and my family has been right there with me at every step.
&nbsp;
Learning How to “Embrace My Now” and Live My Life with ALS
I have Bulbar ALS, so my speech is affected, which I sometimes feel insecure about. But that doesn’t stop me from living my life and doing the things that make me happy. I “Embrace My Now” by enjoying being outside, tending to the garden, and planting new seeds. Today, I’m lucky that I’m still able to drive and do everything I need to do.

Thankfully, I get a lot of support from important people in my life, like the nurse practitioner I see for my ALS care. She’s somebody who really listens, and I’m so happy with the help she gives me. And after my diagnosis, my sister and I have become very close. She’s my go-to person who listens when I need to talk, and she’s been a huge source of support. She’s my ride-or-die partner.

How I Chose to Focus on Fighting
I went back to work the day after I was diagnosed and didn’t really accept that I had ALS. But being in the medical field for over 30 years helped me research the disease and options available. It was then that I chose to fight every day and not quit. Everybody’s journey is different, but I decided to get up every day and keep going.

My Experience with RADICAVA ORS®
Knowing that a lot of people with ALS already use RADICAVA® made me feel more comfortable to start treatment. My doctor tells me how much RADICAVA ORS® to take and how often to take it. I follow the same schedule I did with infusions—10 days on and then off for 2 weeks. With the oral treatment, I don’t have to sit and wait for an infusion to go in, so I think it’s a lot more comfortable for me. I also like that it shakes up well and is convenient for me to take at home. If I could sum up the experience of switching from RADICAVA® IV to RADICAVA ORS®, it would be streamlined administration.

I make sure to follow these instructions my doctor told me:

<li>Take RADICAVA ORS® first thing every morning after fasting overnight</li>
<li>Wait at least 1 hour after taking it before eating or drinking anything except water</li>
<li>RADICAVA ORS® should be stored upright at room temperature between 68°F-77°F and protected from light</li>

My Advice to Others Living with ALS
Talk to your doctor or healthcare professional about what options are available to you. Everybody’s journey is different with ALS, and everybody progresses at different levels. I don’t know any other people that have ALS, so hearing others’ stories was really helpful for me to not feel so alone. I wanted to share my story because I know it will help people like me who need to hear others’ experiences.

My journey with ALS started when I noticed it was getting harder to mow the lawn. I had to take breaks to catch my breath and get my strength back, even though our yard isn’t very large. It was a deterioration of things, like when my strength started to slide. That was when my bride and I first started to get suspicious. Things were just not right.
Moving forward from the diagnosis
When we got the ALS diagnosis—swallowing that kind of news—it took me and my wife a while to recover. The panic set in first, with us saying “What do we do? How do we fix this? What&#8217;s available?” Frankly, my family and friends were crushed. It was very depressing—a very sad time. Everyone around me was incredibly supportive, though. And the company I work for and my colleagues in the industry have also been really incredible. I’m fortunate to say I’ve been overwhelmed with kindness.
Living in this fear of “What&#8217;s next? How am I doing? When is the end going to be?” has been the biggest challenge. I choose to fall back on my faith. I consider my illness and my challenge part of my faith journey.
Learning to focus on what’s important
I came to the point where if I look at my diagnosis in a panic, I’d never get anything done. I needed to treat every day I’m given as a blessing and work with a mindset that we’re all mortal and we need to move forward. That helped me immensely with the realization that whatever life and ALS throws at me, I&#8217;ve got today.
When I get up in the morning, the first thing I do after getting out of bed is make it and get ready for the day. As long as I can physically continue to make my bed, that’s what I’ll do. By my example, I want people to see that life may throw you some curveballs, but you can still enjoy life and be a positive example.
Taking control of my life
Since my diagnosis, I have tried to maintain as much of the lifestyle that I enjoyed before by continuing to work full time. I work from home remotely rather than onsite at the office. ALS, however, has not been without challenges as far as the erosion of day-to-day activities, and I try and keep my body moving and my attitude positive so that I can enjoy life in the fullest.
Talking to my doctor about RADICAVA® (edaravone)
I asked my neurologist early on, after my diagnosis, about RADICAVA® having been referred by an acquaintance who was diagnosed and was taking it himself. I learned from my neurologist that it may help slow the loss of physical function caused by ALS. We also talked about the side effects. At the end of our discussion, we decided it was the best choice for me to start RADICAVA®. If someone living with ALS asked me whether I thought they should try RADICAVA®, I would encourage them to talk with their doctor about it.

Switching from RADICAVA® (edaravone) IV to RADICAVA ORS® (edaravone) 
I have been taking RADICAVA® IV since 2018. When I found out RADICAVA ORS® oral treatment was available, I was on the horn to my neurologist immediately. I meet with my neurologist quarterly at his regional clinic. After we talked more about RADICAVA ORS®, we decided it was the right move for me. Now that I&#8217;ve been taking RADICAVA ORS®, I can say it really fits into my life&#8217;s routines.

My advice for others 
The main thing I wished I&#8217;d realized when I was diagnosed with ALS was that my life wasn&#8217;t over yet. ALS has actually proven to be a life-giving sentence to me. It has taught me to live each day to the fullest, and to consider each day as a blessing. I wish I’d had this reality going into it, and before, so that I could have lived my life a little differently. I’ll encourage any of my fellow PALS (people living with ALS) in this world to view each day as a blessing and to live it in the fullest that you possibly can.

Sharing my ALS story has inspired me to continue living my life to the fullest, but my story is just one of many. <li>have asthma.</li>
<li>are allergic to other medicines.</li>
<li>are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known if RADICAVA or RADICAVA ORS will harm your unborn baby.</li>
<li>are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. It is not known if RADICAVA or RADICAVA ORS passes into your breastmilk. You and your healthcare provider should decide if you will receive RADICAVA or RADICAVA ORS or breastfeed.</li>
</ul>
Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
What are the possible side effects of RADICAVA and RADICAVA ORS?
RADICAVA and RADICAVA ORS may cause serious side effects, including hypersensitivity (allergic) reactions and sulfite allergic reactions.
<ul>
<li>Hypersensitivity reactions have happened in people receiving RADICAVA or taking RADICAVA ORS and can happen after your medicine has been given.</li>
<li>RADICAVA and RADICAVA ORS contain sodium bisulfite, a sulfite that may cause a type of allergic reaction that can be serious and life-threatening. Sodium bisulfite can also cause less severe asthma episodes in certain people. Sulfite sensitivity can happen more often in people who have asthma than in people who do not have asthma.</li>
<li>Tell your healthcare provider right away or go to the nearest emergency room if you have any of the following symptoms: hives; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; fainting; breathing problems; wheezing; trouble swallowing; dizziness; itching; or an asthma attack (in people with asthma).</li>
</ul>
Your healthcare provider will monitor you during treatment to watch for signs and symptoms of all the serious side effects and allergic reactions.
The most common side effects include bruising (contusion), problems walking (gait disturbance), and headache.
These are not all the possible side effects of RADICAVA or RADICAVA ORS. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
